Most people don't think too much about their drywall until there's a problem with it. As someone who's patched and replaced drywall all across DFW, I can tell you that catching small issues early can save you from big repairs later.
Here are 5 common signs you need Drywall Repair in your Dallas home
Cracks Around Doors, Windows, Ceilings, or Openings
Small cracks might not look like much, but they can be a sign that your house is settling especially in Texas where we have Texas clay soil.
I've worked on homes in University Park and North Dallas where a little crack ended up turning into a major issue once moisture and shifting were involved.

Bottom Line: If you see cracks growing or spreading, it's worth getting it checked out.
Water Stains or Soft Spots
If you notice either brown stains or soft spots in your drywall then you most likely have a leak somewhere. It could be coming from an issue in the roof or it could be coming from a leak in the A/C system. You will have to do some quick brainstorming and follow the leak. Sometimes it will require you to open up a piece of your sheetrock to reveal what's going on behind it.
I just fixed a living room ceiling in Fort Worth where the A/C unit was leaking. The homeowner thought it was a paint issue until we removed some of the wet drywall. We ended up finding that the a puddle of water had already begun to accumulate above the drywall, a little more and the drywall could have started caving.

Tip: If it feels soft or swollen do not wait.
Dents, Holes and "Oops" Moments
From the first day that you move in, your drywall begins to take a beating. It is not easy to maneuver furniture around when trying to move in and your walls will feel all of the scratches and dings that come with it. At times it's small enough to where a homeowner can try to repair it themselves but each person's ability varies. I will always recommend you attempt to do it yourself first however if it feels above your skillset it is best to call in a professional for quicker, cleaner results.

Small ding? Attempt to do it yourself.
Big hole or repeated damage? Best to call in a pro to help you blend it in right.
Sagging or Bulging Sheetrock
If your ceiling is starting to sag or bubble out, that usually means that a bigger issue is happening behind the scenes. It could be trapped water or poor installation of the drywall. Over time your sheetrock could also start sagging if your house undergoes shifting caused by changes in the soil.
I've seen this countless times in older homes around DFW where the drywall was not screwed in properly or the insulation above shifted and pushed it down.

Best move: Get it looked at before it begins to get heavier and sag more.
Visible Seams or Rough Finishes
If you can clearly see the seams between drywall sheets or if the finish looks bumpy and uneven then it's usually a sign of bad mudding or that it needs to be sanded a little more.
I have fixed a lot of this in older remodels where it looks like someone tried to DIY it or simply rushed through the project. Trust me, once you paint over it, it will stick out even more.
Want a smooth finish? It is all in the prep, and I have all the tools and patience for it.
I've helped homeowners across all of DFW with everything from small patches to complete level 5 smooth custom homes in Highland Park. If something looks off, give me a shout and I will be happy to help. I can take a look, give it to you straight, and let you know if it is going to be a quick fix or if it needs real attention.
